Al Jafnayn Tower

Al Jafnayn Tower

Al Jafnayn Tower, sometimes also spelled as Jefnein, stands north of the village of the same name in the Muscat Governorate in Oman.

I know absolutely nothing about the history of Al Jafnayn. If you know anything, please mail me.

The village of Al Jafnayn is situated near the mouth of the Wadi Samail, also known as the Samail Gap, which has long been a main route from Muscat to the interior of Oman. As a result, several fortifications, walled villages and watch towers were erected along the wadi to protect the Omanis against attempted invasions.

The tower stands on a rocky hill on the west bank of the wadi. Apparently the tower was once accompanied by a fortlet, which I did not recognize as such when I visited. I guess it was the building which you see directly north of it on the satellite images.

Al Jafnayn Tower is freely accessible. A simple tower, there is nothing to see inside. Nice, but not very interesting. Ar Rusayl Fort is within viewing distance, on the opposite bank of the wadi, to the north.
