Bait Al Maqham Castle

Bait Al Maqham Castle

Bait Al Maqham Castle, sometimes also spelled as Bayt Al Muqham, lies in the village of Sayh Ramdah in the Muscat Governorate in Oman.

Bait Al Maqham Castle was built in the 18th century for Sayyida Thuraya bint Muhammad bin Azzan Al Busaidi. That's all I know about its history, if you know more, please mail me.

The castle is situated in an oasis, next to a wadi. It has a square ground plan with 2 towers on diagonally opposite corners; one rectangular and one circular one. The castle is defended by an irregular shaped surrounding wall. It was already restored twice; the last time in 2010.

I read that Bait Al Maqham Castle is sometimes open for visits. Sadly enough it was closed when I came by. Still, a nice castle in a rural location.
