Bait Al Khabib Castle

Bait Al Khabib Castle

Bait Al Khabib Castle lies in the village of Samad Al Shan, in the Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate in Oman.

Bait Al Khabib Castle was built during the reign of the Omani Sultan Said bin Sultan, between 1807 and 1856. Its builder was Sheikh Said bin Khalfan Al Busaidi. Another source called it the home of Sheikh Nasser bin Humaid bin Saeed Al-Rashidi. Maybe that was the last resident? I could not find any historical information about it. If you know more, please mail me.

The castle has a rectangular plan with 2 towers, an outer and an inner courtyard, a 13-meter deep well, embrasures for cannon and rifles. It once also had spaces that served as an armory and a prison. It was built on a rocky prominence next to the Wadi Samad, within viewing distance of the ruin of Al Khuzam Castle and also a couple of watch towers.

When I visited Bait Al Khabib Castle was in the final stages of being made ready to serve as a small museum. I only paid a tip to an Indian guide.
