Al Wasil Castle

Al Wasil Castle

Al Wasil Castle lies in the village of the same name, in the Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate in Oman.

Al Wasil Castle is said to date back to the 16th century, when it was built by the Hajiri tribe after their arrival in the area. That is all the historical information I was able to find about it. If you know more, please mail me.

The castle has a square ground plan, with 2 round towers on opposite corners. It is situated in the northern corner of a larger once fortified enclosure, maybe that was the original settlement? Of that enclosure, walls and 3 towers remain, which I called the Al Wasil Towers.

Al Wasil Castle was closed when I came by. I don't know if it ever opens for visitors. Too bad, I would have liked to see its interior. The aforementioned towers, however, are freely accessible.
