Al Wasil Towers

Al Wasil Towers

The Al Wasil Towers are situated in the village of the same name, in the Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate in Oman.

The towers seem to have been part of a large, once fortified enclosure, which may have been the original settlement. In the northern corner of that enclosure lies Al Wasil Castle. The castle is said to date back to the 16th century, when it was built by the Hajiri tribe after their arrival in the area. I suspect the enclosure and the towers are contemporary with the castle.

The Al Wasil Towers are freely accessible. The southern tower is the largest, and I liked its interior a lot. Al Wasil Castle was closed when I came by. I don't know if it ever opens for visitors. Too bad, I would have liked to see its interior. So, a sleepy village with a castle and towers, it made for a nice visit.
