Sur Jal Fort
Sur Jal Fort lies in the village of Jal in the Muscat Governorate in Oman.
I know absolutely nothing about this fort. If you know anything, please mail me.
The fort has a, more or less, square ground plan with 2 round towers on diagonally opposite corners. The gate was directly next to the south tower in the south wall. It was built out of mud bricks, probably on a stone base. It has the typical layout of a 'sur', which is the Omani denomination of a simple communal fortification. They were built, maintained and used as a place of refuge by the local tribe in times of danger.
The old fort doesn't seem to be treated with much respect, as a modern building has been built directly next to it. More modern building activity was encroaching.
Sur Jal Fort is freely accessible. I hope it will survive the building activities next to it. Al Fateh Castle is nearby.
