Norrisland Castle

Norrisland Castle

Norrisland Castle lies east of the town of Lismore, in County Waterford, in Ireland.

Norrisland Castle, actually a fortified house, was built on the right bank of the River Blackwater shortly before 1600 by William Greatrakes, an English planter, after his marriage to Anne Croker. It was also the birthplace of Valentine Greatrakes, an Irish faith healer, in 1628.

This was all the historical info I was able to find about the castle. If you know more; please mail me. I'd especially like to know how and when it became a ruin.

Norrisland Castle lies in a field and can freely be visited. Too bad the ruin is so much overgrown because that makes it hard to see architectural details.
