Napareuli Castle

Napareuli Castle lies in the town of the same name, in the Telavi municipality in the Kakheti region in Georgia.

I could not find any historical information about Napareuli Castle, other than that it was built in the 18th century. I suspect it was built as a so-called peasant castle, a 'galavani' as the Georgians call it. If you know anything; please mail me.

It had a square ground plan with round towers at its corners. At present the corner tower at the southeast has some kind of private use. Most of the curtain walls have gone, leaving only the 4 corner towers up to varying heights. On the grounds of the castle now stands an anonymous apartment building.

I don't know if Napareuli Castle can freely be visited. I myself was granted access by an elderly man sitting at the gate. Nice remnants of a castle that are a bit hidden in the fabric of a small town neighborhood.
