Baraggiola Tower

Baraggiola Tower

Baraggiola Tower, locally known as Torre della Baraggiola, lies in the city of the same name, in the Novara province in the Piedmont region in Italy.

When Baraggiola Tower was built is unknown. It is thought that it was built about some decades earlier than the little St. Nicolas Church right next to it. Architectural research showed that the church was probably built between 965 and 1000 AD.

The slender, square tower, with a height of 21 meters, most probably originally served as a watchtower. Later it served as a bell tower to the church. The fact that its only entrance is situated on a height of 4.5 meters from the ground attests to its original defensive function.

Baraggiola Tower can freely be visited on the outside. When I visited the little church was closed, I don't know if it is ever opened up for visits. An elegant tower.
