Al Rayyan Residence

This residence lies in the town of Al Rayyan in the municipality of Ar Rayyan in Qatar.

I named it the Al Rayyan Residence but to be honest, I don't think it has a name. It is just a fortified residential development situated in Al Rayyan. I think it dates back to the early 20th century, when the need to fortify your home still existed. It probably was built by a wealthy family. I have no historical information about it. The residence has a square ground plan with 2 round towers on opposite corners. A rebuilding took place in the 1970s.

In 2006 another similar, but slightly larger, structure was built next to its northeastern corner. I have seen that structure been called Bin Jassim Castle. It is, however, a pure pastiche. Together with the building of that new structure, the old residence was completely rebuilt.

At present the Al Rayyan Residence nor the modern pastiche next to it, can be visited. A guard told me both the structures were owned by an interior design and building company to showcase their capabilities. I think the company is quite capable of making something nice but I think they robbed the old residence of its history. I would have liked to visit the interior of both structures, but most of all the original residence.
