Misinli Castle

Misinli Castle

Misinli Castle, locally known as Misinli Kalesi, lies in the village of the same name, in the province of Tekirdağ in Turkey.

Misinli Castle probably dates back to around the 6th century and was built by the Byzantine Empire. It was one of the first Byzantine fortresses in the region to fall into Ottoman hands, around 1360, when it surrendered to the forces of the Ottoman Sultan Murad I without a fight.

The settlement was first called 'Drousipara', which later changed to 'Mesinia', which finally became Misinli, It is even mentioned on the Peutinger Map as 'Drysiporo'.

The castle remains consist of a round corner tower with 2 connecting wall parts, all standing up to about a height of some 4 meters.

At present the site of Misinli Castle is very much overgrown and therefore difficult to access or even view.
