Klisina Castle

Klisina Castle

Klisina Castle, locally known as Utvrda Klisina, lies north of the hamlet of Bilišane, in the county of Zadar in Croatia.

Although called a castle, this is more a small fortified tower. It was probably built during the 14th or 15th century to counter Ottoman raids into northern Dalmatia. The tower was built on a rock, on the left bank of the Zrmanja River, guarding a river crossing. It had 3 floors and was probably accessed by wooden stairs. Its northern side has collapsed.

I was not able to find any historical information about it. If you know more; please mail me.

Klisina Castle can freely be visited. I was not able to find a safe way to enter it, sadly enough. To reach it, you will have to walk for about 10 minutes from some beautiful small waterfalls and natural pools in the Zrmanja river which are frequented by locals.
