Kalecik Castle

Kalecik Castle, locally known as Kalecik Kalesi, lies on the edge of a plateau in the Kura river valley, south of the village with the same name, in the province of Ardahan in Turkey.

When Kalecik Castle was built is unknown. Due to its likeness to other castles in the area and its location, it is thought that it may date back to Urartian times (860-590 BC). I was not able to find any historical information about this castle. If you know more, please mail me.

At present the ruins of Kalecik Castle mostly consist of a long wall, with a gate and remains of towers, cutting off a corner of the plateau it is located on.

Kalecik Castle is freely accessible. This is a very nice castle.
