Kalealtı Castle

Kalealtı Castle

Kalealtı Castle, locally known as Kalealtı Kalesi, lies on a hill west of the village of the same name, in the province of Çanakkale in Turkey.

Most sources state that Kalealtı Castle is a Byzantine fortification. Some however say it is a castle built by the Genoese. I was not able to find any source that could give historical information about the castle. If you know anything, please mail me.

At present Kalealtı Castle is freely accessible. It is just some 30 meters up rocky terrain from the dirt road running beneath it. Just a small ruin, largely overgrown, so it is hard to make out architectural details.
