Dunmore Castle

Dunmore Castle

Dunmore Castle lies in the village of Dunmore East, in County Waterford in Ireland.

Dunmore Castle was built around 1640 by Lord Power of Curraghmore, who already owned a large amount of property in the area. It was built on a cliff overlooking the strand, about 200 metres from St. Andrew's Church. A promontory fort probably existed here before.

Apparently the castle was a beautiful sight, but by the middle of the next century it was already falling into ruin. Now just this one circular tower remains.

The tower is sometimes erroneously called a Round Tower.

This remnant of Dunmore Castle can freely be visited from the outside. It can not be entered. A simple tower ruin in a pleasant seaside village.
