Cloncoskoran Castle

Cloncoskoran Castle

Cloncoskoran Castle, sometimes also spelled as Cloncoskeran, lies north of the village of Ballinroad, in County Waterford in Ireland.

When this castle was built is unknown, only that it was probably built by the Shanahan family. In the 1640s it was held by a Richard Nugent. Through intermarriage his descendants became the Nugent-Humble family. They apparently still own the ruin. How or when it fell to ruin, I don't know.

What remains is a ruined tower of 4 stories high with traces of a spiral staircase in a corner. The sloping wall was probably added to support the ruin and prevent it from collapsing.

Cloncoskoran Castle lies on private land, so it can not be visited but can be seen from the public road. A small tower ruin.
