Beamish Mausoleum

Beamish Mausoleum lies in a field south of the town of Macroom, in County Cork in Ireland.

This is a strange tower. The only information I was able to find about it, was that it was built in 1857 by a member of the local, wealthy Beamish brewing family. But as to its use or history I found nothing.

It looks like a folly but those were mostly built on the estates of the wealthy. And in this case there is no mansion nearby. So maybe a hunting lodge or a lookout tower? If you know more, please mail me.

Due to its appearance it often gets mistaken for a medieval tower house.

At present is stands in a private field, used to graze cattle. It is not accessible but can be viewed from the main road.
