Awlad Murshid Castle

Awlad Murshid Castle, locally known as Qalat Awlad Murshid, sometimes also spelled as Oulad Marshid, lies in the town of Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, in the Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate in Oman.

The town of Jalan Bani Bu Hassan lies mainly stretched along the east side of the Wadi Bani Khalid, with date palm plantations on both banks of the wadi and some smaller suburbs on the west side of the wadi.  The castle is situated in the northern part of town, east of the wadi.

I know absolutely nothing about this castle, other than that it apparently was an important fortification in the history of Jalan Bani Bu Hassan. If you know anything, please mail me.

It has a square ground plan with a high tower in the midst of one of its walls. Some parts of the former castle are now taken up by modern constructions.

Awlad Murshid Castle can not be visited and only be viewed from outside. The town of Jalan Bani Bu Hassan makes for a great visit, if you are a castle-nut like me, as there are several other fortifications strewn in and about the town. First, the large and restored Jalan Bani Bu Hassan Fort, but also the castles/forts of Sayaaria, Al Khuwaisa, Falaj Al Fahiya and Al Mashayikh.
