Avenisi Tower

Avenisi Tower stands near the hamlet of the same name, in the Dusheti municipality in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region in Georgia.

I guess the tower was built during the 17th/18th century and served as a watch tower. It has a rectangular ground plan. It is situated on a hill on the northern shore of the Zhinvali Reservoir, opposite the well known Ananuri Castle.

At present Avenisi Tower can freely be visited. A simple tower ruin but on a beautiful location. The bike belonged to a German long distance cyclist whom I met there. He was making camp for the night. There is also a delightful little chapel near the tower. Watch out for the bats though.
