Altena Castle

Altena Castle, locally known as Kasteel Altena, lies in the town of Kruibeke, in the province of East Flanders in the Flemish region in Belgium.
There was already a castle on this site in 1584, when it burned down. That castle might have been built in the 13th century. Ten years later, the burned ruin was rebuilt as a moated castle.
It was continuously owned by the noble Lanfranchye/Lanfranchie family, who also owned the Manor of Kruibeke, until 1850. Then, it was acquired by the Le Boucq de Beaudignies family. Julius le Boucq de Beaudignies had the castle expanded in 1878.
From 1946 to 2014, the castle was used by a couple of religious congregations as a rest house and study center.
Currently, a new purpose for the castle is still being decided. I believe it is now being used temporarily as an office. Altena Castle cannot be visited. It is a nice castle.
