Žegar Tower

Žegar Tower

Žegar Tower, locally known as Žegarska Kula, lies in the hamlet of Kaštel Žegarski, in the county of Zadar in Croatia.

The tower is said to date back to the time of the Ottoman-Venetian Wars. These, however, played out between 1392 and 1718. I suspect that the tower was built sometime during the 16th or 17th century. By whom it was built is unknown. The village grew up next to the tower and was also named after it.

Žegar Tower is freely accessible. A simple, but nice tower in a sleepy hamlet.
