Sayaaria Castle

Sayaaria Castle

Sayaaria Castle, locally known as Qalat Hisn Sayaaria/Sayyariyya, lies in the town of Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, in the Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate in Oman.

The town of Jalan Bani Bu Hassan lies mainly stretched along the east side of the Wadi Bani Khalid, with date palm plantations on both banks of the wadi and some smaller suburbs on the west side of the wadi.  The castle is situated in the southern part of town, in a small suburb west of the wadi.

I know absolutely nothing about this castle. If you know anything, please mail me.

The layout of the former castle is hard to see, as modern town planning has taken over the area. The main remnant of the castle is the tower, which is now part of the grounds of the village mosque. North and east of it are 2 solitary ruins that seem to have been part of its walls.

Sayaaria Castle can freely be visited. Not a very interesting site, but I still liked the tower. The town of Jalan Bani Bu Hassan makes for a great visit, if you are a castle-nut like me, as there are several other fortifications strewn in and about the town. First, the large and restored Jalan Bani Bu Hassan Fort, but also the castles/forts of Awlad Murshid, Al Khuwaisa, Falaj Al Fahiya and Al Mashayikh. There are also many watch towers around. The Jalan Bani Bu Hassan Tower is just within a 5-minute walk.
