Samtsevrisi Castle

Samtsevrisi Castle lies next to the village of the same name, in the Kareli municipality in the Shida Kartli region in Georgia.

Other than that Samtsevrisi Castle dates back to the 15th/16th century, I was not able to find any other historical information about it. If you know anything; please mail me.

The castle is situated in the valley of the Kura River (called the Mtkvari in Georgia) on a hill on the right bank. It consists of a somewhat triangular castle with a square keep and a bailey on its east side.

At present Samtsevrisi Castle is also known as Samtsevrisi Monastery as it is used as a convent. The inside of the castle can not be visited because the nuns live in the buildings inside the castle and are not particularly keen on receiving visitors, I noticed... A very nice castle.
