Ruispiri Castle

Ruispiri Castle lies south of the village of the same name, in the Telavi municipality in the Kakheti region in Georgia.

I could not find any historical information about Ruispiri Castle. I suspect it was built during the 17th/18th century as a so-called peasant castle, a 'galavani' as the Georgians call it.

It has a square ground plan with round towers at its corners. There is a small church and remnants of several other buildings inside its walls. It is situated on the left bank of the Turdo River. It seems to be threatened by a small industrial complex between it and the river. The complex looks like a cement factory, thus using the sand of the river bank. The southern corner tower and the southeast curtain wall of the castle have already disappeared.

At present Ruispiri Castle is freely accessible. A beautiful small castle. In the village itself is also another castle; Adamaant Castle.
