Khor Al Hamam Fort

Khor Al Hamam Fort lies in a quiet fishing village of the same name, in the Al Batinah North Governorate in Oman.

I know absolutely nothing about this fort. I am not even sure of its name. If you know anything; please mail me.

It has a square ground plan with one remaining round corner tower. As the fort has a typical (although large) layout for a 'sur', I suspect there might have been a second corner tower on the opposite corner. A 'sur' is the Omani denomination of a simple communal fortification. They were built, maintained and used as a place of refuge by the villagers in times of danger.

It is completely built out of mud bricks. Which is probably the reason it is now slowly eroding away, as it is situated only some 75 meters from the sea shore.

At present Khor Al Hamam Fort is freely accessible. A simple fort ruin standing a bit forlorn in an area where apparently very recently the houses were demolished.
