Khatt Fort

Khatt Fort lies in a small and quiet town with the same name, in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.

Khatt Fort was probably built in the 19th century. I guess it served to protect the oasis and the local therapeutic hot springs, together with 3 watch towers. The fort was used as the residence of the ruling family of Ras Al Khaimah up until the early 1960s. Up until recent years the fort was in use as the Ras Al Khaimah National Museum, but this museum is now in Ras Al Khaimah Fort. I have no other historical information about this fort. The fort has an irregular ground plan, dominated by a sturdy elliptical tower.

At present Khatt Fort is being restored so it can not be visited. A simple fort but I liked the tower.
