Drisi Castle

Drisi Castle lies on a mountain west of the village of Chkopiani, in the Kaspi municipality in the Shida Kartli region in Georgia.

Not much is known about Drisi Castle. During the Middle Ages it belonged to the Javakhishvili family. It could be the Cchireti Castle, which was the summer residence of Luarsab II of Kartli. This was all the info I was able to find. If you know more; please mail me.

The castle is situated on a mountain above the Tedzami River gorge. And, built upon a rocky peak, it has an irregular ground plan that follows the outline of the rock.

At present Drisi Castle can freely be visited. I myself was not able to find a safe path to the castle, although there is supposed to be a path leading to it from the east. But the views from down in the valley were very nice. You will need to make a 20 minutes hike from the nearest road.
