Chinti Tower

Chinti Tower stands in the village of the same name, in the Dusheti municipality in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region in Georgia.

I guess that the tower dates back to the 17th/18th century and that it served as a place of refuge during times of trouble. The slender, square tower has a peculiar design that I haven't seen anywhere else in Georgia; the lower part has rounded corners going up and ending in simple decorated corner stones, after which the upper part has angular corners. Also the upper part seems to be of a different kind of stonework which leads me to believe that the upper part is of a later date.

At present Chinti Tower can freely be visited. A unique tower. Too bad you can not get inside it.
