César Castle

César Castle, locally known as Château César or Château de Vaulx, lies in the village of Vaulx, which is a kind of suburb of the city of Tournai, in the province of Hainaut in the Wallonia region in Belgium. It lies right next to the bridge over the Escaut river.

Although I have searched the internet and my books thoroughly, I don't know anything about this nice ruin, other than that it is a classified monument and was probably built during the 13th century. So, if anyone can tell me anything about the history of this castle, drop me an email!

César Castle is a small rectangular shaped castle with circular towers at its four corners. The entrance to the castle seems to have been at the riverside. There are some nice architectural details to see, such as a bathroom sink, a well, a garderobe and a vaulted cellar.

Sadly enough, the ruin doesn't seem to be taken care of, as even the fence, which protected the castle from its north side, is gone. So the ruin is now freely accessible.

Also the great Antoing Castle is only a five-minute drive to the south-east.
