Castle Gardens Compound

Castles Gardens Compound lies in next to the Hamad Medical City quarter in the city of Doha in Qatar.

This, of course, is not a fort nor anything historical; it is a pastiche. It is the exterior of a luxury residential compound, probably built around 2000 by the Al Faisal Holding. It does show the love of the Qatari's for fortified architecture. To me, however, it doesn't reflect the local Qatari style of fortified buildings but more that of fortifications from the Crusader era. If you drive around Doha you will notice several other modern buildings with fortified elements.

The outside of the Castle Gardens Compound is of course freely accessible. The interior is only accessible as a resident, obviously. The gate is guarded. A peculiar building, showing what you can do with money, in my opinion.
