Brommat Tower

Brommat Tower, locally known as Château de Brommat, lies in the village of the same, in the Aveyron department in France.

Although being called a 'castle' and having been built in the 15th century, this structure is not a castle but a tower house. It was built on the site of an earlier fortified structure, dating back to the early 14th century. The site belonged to the abbey of Conques and was used for agricultural purposes. It is situated right next to the local church, dating back to the 12th century, which was also rebuilt in the 15th century.

In 1582, during the French Wars of Religion, the village of Brommat was attacked and pillaged by villagers from the neighboring village of Mur-de-Barrez.

In the 2nd half of the 18th century the tower house was partially demolished because of its dilapidated state. Recently it was restored and incorporated into a small village park.

At present Brommat Tower can only be visited externally. A nice tower in a quiet village.
