Al Bidya Towers

The Al Bidya Towers, sometimes also spelled Al Badiyah or Bidiyah, are situated in the town of the same name, in the emirate of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.

Although sometimes also called a fort, the site actually consists of the Al Bidya Mosque and 2 adjacent watchtowers. The small mosque is rather famous as it has an architectural design unique in the whole of the United Arab Emirates. Archaeological research showed that the mosque might date back to the mid-15th century, which also makes it the oldest mosque in the Emirates.

The 2 towers are both of a different design. The lower tower is round, while the upper tower is kind of elliptical. Of both towers only the upper part is plastered.

The Al Bidya Towers can freely be visited during daytime, although the towers themselves can not be entered. The mosque can also be visited but not during prayer time. A very nice site.
