Ballinskelligs Castle

Ballinskelligs Castle lies on a rocky outcrop on the beach of Baile na Sceilge (Ballinskelligs), in County Kerry in Ireland.

Ballinskelligs Castle was probably built somewhere in the 16th century by the MacCarthy Mors. It probably served to protect the Ballinskelligs Bay from pirates and maybe also as a toll station for incoming trade vessels. Nothing more is known about its history.

The tower has a rectangular plan and was, most likely, never more than 2 stories high.

Ballinskelligs Castle is freely accessible. This is a nice small ruin on a great location.
