Al Bait Al Aud Castle

Al Bait Al Aud Castle lies in the village of Al Khawd in the Muscat Governorate in Oman.

Though called a castle, Al Bait Al Aud was probably more like a fortified palatial residence. It has a square ground plan with a single round tower at its northern corner. Inside there is a very small courtyard. The village is situated next to the Wadi Al Khoud. A little to the north is Al Khoud Castle. That castle is now in ruins and thought to be some 100 years older than Al Bait Al Aud. I guess their histories will have strong links.

When I came by, Al Bait Al Aud Castle was being restored. I don't know what its function will be after the restoration will be completed. I hope it will be opened to visitors.
